No, this is not me doing the laundry - it's too pretty a day for mundane chores and I've come down with cold - so instead I took a walk in the garden for an extra dose of vitamin D.
You can't even see it, but this was the five minute snow flurry one morning last week! I rushed to the front porch, the tiny flakes whirled in the wind and then were gone ~ was it really a dream, a wish.......no, it snowed just long enough to taunt and tease here in the South.Today bright sunshine and temperatures in the 70's brings back our Carolina Blue sky making a walk through the Winter garden pleasant. This squirrel's nest high in an oak tree hangs on for dear life - they look so flimsy but will soon hold a new generation of those pesky, but cute, little devils who invade the garden year round.
Color can be rare in the January garden.................unless you have berry bearing shrubs such as hollies and Pyracantha, at their loveliest when the sun shines, and before the hungry birds devour them.
Hi Mary,
ReplyDeleteIt's like a breath of fresh air!!
It's almost like Spring.
Thanks for sharing,
Rosemary
Thank´s for Your nice comments on Sweden! Yes it´s a beautiful and clean country! We´re not so many and we have a lot of space. But I love to travel seeing other beautiful countrys too. It gives me perspective on things. I´ve learned to appreciate what I´ve got and sadly discover that wild nature is dissapearing around us too fast!

Hi MAry. I feel like I've just had a walk outside with you as I read your blog. I have bee inside all day but am about to go for a walk now and enjoy this beautiful day. What a change from the cold last week! I noticed that my hydrangea has a couple of green buds. I told it to go back to sleep for another couple of months!
ReplyDeleteMary, did I give your my cold or you give me yours? We came down with it together. I sat this evening by the woodstove and still felt so cold and achey but that is the effect the cold has on my chronic illness. More about that when I get my email sent to you...
ReplyDeleteWe had a network server problem tonight and only just now have our system back up but alas it is time for me to go to bed. I will finish that email tomorrow instead. In the meantime, I wanted to stop by and say good night.
You are lucky to have some holly berries still on the branches. Our are eaten so quickly up at Cranberry Cottage. They never make it past November. Snowflakes are a cheerful sight but we have had none this winter so far. It is really warm here for the time of year ~ 7C today. I am glad you felt fit enough to go outdoors. We are having a southwestern storm and I am staying inside and warm so I am better (fingers crossed) for my quilt group to come on Wednesday.
Hugs ~
Heidi
Oh Mary, how beautiful! I envy your SC weather... is so cold here, and still snowing... How I long for spring, for sunshine and birds splashing water in the birdbath.... We visited SC a year ago and fell in love with it.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely evening.

Hello, Mary
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures! I found your blog referral at Rhondi's Rose Colored Glasses. I perked up my ears when I read that you both are N. Carolinians and saw your pictures of Raleigh. My son is recently in Raleigh, so I'm sure I will be spending more time there in the future.
Wishing you a wonderful 2008!
Linda H
How much fun to walk through your garden with you! I feel as though I can breathe the fresh air with you and shall we have a cup of tea as well? I remember when we lived in Arizona, it was a huge deal when it snowed at all and every child was outside to play in it! Even if it didn't stick, it was definitely worth being out to see!
ReplyDeleteWe are now having spring weather. It is so strange. Today we are supposed to have high winds. The temp was up to the 60's. Your garden looks so inviting. You are so very good at decorating inside and out.
ReplyDeleteDon't get too sick Mary! This weather is so wonderful - a beautiful day to get out for a walk.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I'm getting a little bit of a sore throat!
The photos are lovely - I can't see the snow, but then I didn't see it last week either.
Hugs,
Deborah
