I decided to look around to see what else I may have forgotten, and of course found these - the last lonely Belgian chocolates languishing in my carnival glass sweet dish. When nobody was looking, I quietly opened the small one and enjoyed - that huge one is still waiting to be picked but I promise it won't be by me!
On the other hand, don't they say a piece of dark chocolate each day is a health benefit?
Oh sweet sleeping putti, I cannot bring myself to pack you away, especially as your bird friend is still resting on your hip. I did remove your Christmas finery and am allowing you to snooze a bit longer in the dining room. Perhaps you can stay here until Spring when I'll move you to the front porch - maybe you'll awaken as the trees turn green again - just a few more months.

Dear Mary,
ReplyDeleteI always leave some bit of Christmas mistakenly not packed away. I once had to live with a Santa mouse pad for months until I found my other one.
I definitely think the putti should stay put. He looks wonderful right where he is.
I received "The Lady in the Palazzo" last night and can't wait to dive in, but I have to finish my Marie Antoinette book and read my Jan. book club book first.
Hugs,
Julie
Ah yes, I spent a great deal of time last night putting Christmas stuff away, but I'm sure I'll find something I missed today. Those baubles do look beautiful on your tea tray, though.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your blog and your English perspective on things. Thanks,
Laura from Amongst The Oaks
I love the cup and saucers behind the sweet putti! What is the china pattern?
ReplyDeleteThank you
sherry
Chocolate is indeed good for the body, but especialy the soul! Indulge!
ReplyDeleteAnd, along with sleeping dogs, I think it's best to let sleeping angels lie!
Your blog today is so delightful and pretty. I usually forget some Christmas decorations each year too. This year I left the greens, red apples and plaid bows on the mantle for a little longer just because it looks so cheery and colorful! Some of your china looks like the paintings from Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady. Is it? It's really lovely. Hope you have a good weekend. Rhondi
ReplyDeleteJust came across your blog and really enjoyed it. Loooove your taste in your cottage furnishings!!!!

ReplyDeleteThe green cup, saucer and plate (I also have one dinner plate which you can't see here)is a reproduction of the circa 1820 English pattern TORQUAY, my home town in England. It depicts shells and seaweeds found along the Devon coast - naturally I fell in love with it immediately! Unfortunately as it's a Mottahedeh "Winterthur" reproduction it's very expensive. My dh surprised me with these few pieces over the past few years. I often use the cup and saucer for my afternoon tea.
I'll post a close-up photo later so you can see the design better.
Thanks for visiting - do come back!
Mary.
Lovely post sweetie. I've enjoyed spending this wet stormy afternoon with you...
ReplyDeleteAmanda (aka Cottage Contessa)
Okay dear Mary! You wanted to be part of my family and we adopted you but that means taking the bad with the good. So here goes.....EAT THAT DELISH PIECE OF DARK CHOCOLATE!!! And that is an order. :) Now no excuses. Just open your mouth and enjoy each morsel of chocolate heaven as it melts in your mouth. Yes, dark chocolate is wonderful for your health. Even people on diets are allowed to eat dark, high cocoa content chocolate which is full of anti~oxidants. So no guilt and no worries, just eat it. And remember life is for enjoying. How is that a motto for 2008??? And by the way, I love that dish it is in!!!
ReplyDeleteI too think your little sleeping cherub should remain in your home and not packed away. He is just too adorable to put away in the attic.
I forget decorations very often and do my rounds to inspect everything. My tree is still up as today is 3 Kings Day. The ornaments in dish are so pretty. It is okay to have them up through today (Sunday).
Hugs ~
Heidi
Ok Mary, I am here to say ditto to what Heidi said. You should eat that chocolate. It looks much to good to leave in the pretty dish.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is a 'new place' for me also, and so visually pleasing as well as a wonderful 'read'.
ReplyDeleteI received a garden angel for Christmas, but he'll be kept out all year for me to enjoy. I suggest you keep your little one in the DR as the angel who rests during dinner parties. He deserves to be a part of 'the scene'. ;o)
Hopefull i'll be back to enjoy more of your blog.........
