Open House............with refreshments

The coy smile on those chubby cheeks offered lovely things to take home.........gold, silver, stone, wood...............all would bring the spirit of the Holidays to your mantle, shelves, little side tables, windows and walls.

The pale Santas and old world style boxes hid the slender bottles of deep red wine................let's have a toast!

The creamy soy candles sat proudly on their lovely candlesticks, almost too nice to burn.

The proud reindeer watched cautiously, hoping they would be picked and they could get rid of those tags dangling from their antlers................then how elegant they'd be at the front door welcoming guests stopping by for a drink, or lazing on the warm holiday hearth next to the hefty oak logs.
And the angels....................singing and playing angelic music, religiously tempting us to buy.

Visit to a Holiday Open House...................these lovely decorative accessories are so hard to resist. I like to look at them all closely, to see the workmanship and admire the creativity of the designers who come up with all these wonderful ideas each season.

  1. How lovely it all was at the Open House. Don't you find that seeing these things displayed sometimes gives you new and fresh ideas of how to use your own holiday decorations? I am so tempted these last few days to start on my Christmas decorations but am trying to resist. I want to wait until after (or perhaps on) Thanksgiving Day. The more beautiful things you see on blogs, the harder it is to resist. Have you started any of your holiday decorating?

You commented on my blog about decorating can become overwhelming. I so agree! Since I developed two chronic illnesses, I am not able to keep up with myself. I want to do so much but sometimes have to just give in. I take about 2 weeks to decorate my house doing a little each day. My Christmas tree alone takes me two days unless Jos helps me a good bit of it. He too enjoys all the decorations so we really deck the house out as much as I can.

  2. It is me again Mary. :) I just enlarged the 3rd photo and see that those are the exact same candles I buy. I love them and at the moment have Cinnamon Spice burning.

  5. I am as drawn to those items as you obviously were. I would welcome any of those objects into my home. I have really gotten away from the red and green in my Christmas decorating.

Today is the day of the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony's Holiday Home Walk. I used to go to them every year but quit because it depressed me to come home to my shabby little house. I realize now that my house is a cozy little place but I still don't go to the HHWs.

I feel a bit of a Scrooge because five of my book club members volunteer at one house each year but I refuse to do so. Oh, well.

On Thursday evening George's son and family will be here too.
